The best way, without a doubt, to experience Iceland is by driving around this beautiful  country. The cheapest way to experience Iceland is by camping. There are camping sites spread in all corners of the country, some with more facilities than others.

Camping in Iceland in a Camper
As most people who has researched Iceland as a vacation destination knows already that the Icelandic weather can be very temperamental and unpredictable, making setting up a tent a task and not a joy if the weather turns sour. By the time your tent is up and everything is organized, everything is humid and cold. So the ultimate, most economical way to travel around Iceland must be in a camper van.
Camper van interior IcelandOur Campers are equipped with everything you need, all you have to do is drive and have fun. With the open road ahead and with no check in time at a hotel (which you have to book in advance to make sure there are rooms available) to meet, you are free as a bird. There are no check out time at a camping site (or wherever you camp), you are in full control over your holiday, you do as you please, you go where you want, when you want to.
If the temperature drops during nights, all you have to do is to turn on the heater in the camper van and it will get cozy and toasty instantly.
Many camping sites have just about everything you need like showers, washing facilities, swimming pools, fire pits for socializing with others, super markets to stock your car with all necessities, restaurants and activities.
Camping off the beaten path in Iceland is legal but there are set rules. On the homepage for The Environment Agency of Iceland it reads:
„There are various things to keep in mind if you are planning to camp or spend the night outside organised campsites. In November 2015, new conservation legislation came into effect making changes to where it is permissible to camp. For instance, it is now illegal to spend the night in tent trailers, tent campers, caravans, camper vans or similar outside organised campsites or urban areas unless the land owner or rightholder has given their permission.“
Of course common sense needs to be applied like everywhere else, don‘t litter and don‘t park/camp on sensitive vegetation and remember off road driving is forbidden in Iceland. Leave your camping spot as it was when you arrived there.
Happy camping! #WohoCamper
