A flexible option for 4x4 and Highland adventurers
The Jeep Renegade 4xe is a compact 4×4 camper rental designed for travelers who want the flexibility of a rooftop tent with the practicality of a smaller vehicle. It sleeps 2 people in the roof tent and seats up to 5 while driving, making it a good fit for couples, photographers, and travelers planning an Iceland road trip with occasional passengers.
This Jeep Renegade camper includes camping gear, automatic transmission, unlimited km (miles), CDW insurance, and access to Iceland’s marked F-roads where conditions allow. The rooftop setup keeps the footprint smaller than a traditional camper van while still giving you space to cook, sleep, and travel independently around Iceland.
The vehicle is a plug-in hybrid with 4-wheel drive capability for gravel roads, changing weather, and Highland routes that require a suitable 4×4 vehicle.
Important: Even though this camper is authorized on F-roads, off-roading is strictly illegal in Iceland.

Setting up camp
Park on firm, level ground
Choose a legal campsite or approved camping area, then park the Jeep on stable, level ground before opening the tent.
Open the rooftop tent
Release the tent cover, unfold the rooftop tent, and secure the ladder before climbing in. Check that the ladder is stable and the tent is fully opened before use.
Set up your sleeping gear
Use the included sleeping bags, pillows, and bed sheets inside the tent. The sleeping area is 120 × 210 cm, which is designed for 2 people.
Prepare your cooking area
Use the included gas stove, cookware, table, chairs, cooler, and 10L water tank outside the vehicle. Cooking should always be done outside the tent and vehicle.
Pack down before driving
Before leaving camp, close and secure the tent fully, pack loose gear back into the vehicle, and check that the cover is fastened before driving.
Practical note
The rooftop tent is simple once you have done it the first time, but it still works best when you give yourself a little daylight for the first setup. In windy or wet weather, take extra care when opening, closing, and securing the tent.

Interior and Luggage
The Jeep Renegade 4xe gives you a compact driving setup with seating for up to 5 people, but it is best used as a two-person camper. The rooftop tent sleeps 2, and the included camping gear takes up part of the vehicle’s storage space.
Inside the cabin, the second row can be used for extra passengers during the day or for luggage storage when you are traveling as a couple. If you are planning a full road trip, soft bags are much easier to manage than hard-shell suitcases, especially once sleeping gear, kitchen equipment, the cooler, and the water tank are packed.
This setup works well for travelers who want a smaller 4×4 camper rather than a full campervan. It is less suitable if you need an indoor living space, built-in heating, or sleeping room for more than 2 people.
Practical packing advice
Pack soft-sided bags instead of large hard-shell suitcases
Keep daily-use items in smaller bags so they are easy to reach
Expect the trunk to be partly occupied by camping gear
Use the second row for luggage when traveling as 2 people
Do not plan to sleep inside the vehicle; the sleeping setup is the rooftop tent
The Renegade is the ideal Jeep rental Iceland those seeking a sleek and practical SUV to explore everything this majestic country has to offer. It offers an optimal combination of comfort and functionality with an optimized cabin design, plush upholstery, and a stylish exterior.
The Jeep Renegade’s powerful engine and four-wheel-drive (AWD) capability make it the ideal choice for adventurous road trips across Iceland’s diverse terrain. Additionally, the Renegade is allowed on Iceland’s Highland roads (F-Roads), which means you can explore every corner of the country without any restrictions*.
*Please note that even though the camper is authorized to go on F-roads, off-roading is illegal in Iceland.
Can You Drive the Jeep Renegade Camper on F-Roads?
Yes, the Jeep Renegade 4xe roof tent camper is authorized for Iceland’s marked F-roads where conditions allow. Its 4×4 drivetrain and higher ground clearance make it suitable for many Highland routes that require a properly equipped 4-wheel drive vehicle.
However, F-road access in Iceland always depends on weather, seasonal openings, road conditions, and driver judgment. Some Highland roads include rough terrain, steep sections, loose gravel, potholes, or river crossings that may not be passable in all conditions.
Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland, including in 4×4 vehicles that are permitted on F-roads. You must stay on marked roads and follow current road-condition guidance before entering the Highlands.
You should also review Iceland’s official road and travel safety updates before starting any Highland route.
