I would like to share with you our travel route as all the comments from other travelers were very useful for us in order to prepare our trip and I hope we can help other people who is planning to visit this country.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We hired a camper van for 12 full days (it was 14 days in total but we spent 2 days travelling), from 22nd September to 3rd October 2016.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day One &#8211; Keflav\u00edk<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We traveled from Palma de Mallorca (Spain) to Dusseldorf and from there to Keflavik. We landed at 11.30 pm local time. We had booked a room at Hotel Kef Guesthouse in Keflavik as the rent a car was also located in this city and we had agreed they would come to pick us up in this hotel on the following morning. The hotel is comfortable and clean; it is ok to spend a few hours there.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day Two &#8211; Sn\u00e6fellsnes<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We rented a camper for 2 people through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/#vans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rent.is<\/a> just because it was the best price compared with other companies and the renting process was smooth.<\/div>\n<div>We started our route to West Peninsula Snaefellnes to go through the famous trail from Arnarstapi to Hellnar (2,5 kms) where we could also see Sn\u00e6fellsj\u00f6kull.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Advise<\/strong><\/span>: if you do not have a lot of days, this is the area that we were very impressed as you have lots of kilometers with lots of wind. Check the weather forecast beforehand.<\/div>\n<div>We slept in a camping at Borgarnes with a spectacular sunset by the sea. That night, Iceland welcomed us with a big storm when we were ready to cook dinner\u2026such an experience!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/camping-trip-to-iceland.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 875px; height: 656px;\" title=\"A Camping trip to Iceland\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/camping-trip-to-iceland.jpg\" alt=\"A Camping trip to Iceland\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day Three &#8211; Akureyri<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We drove to Akureyri, we parked the van at a camping and we walked through the lovely forest of Kjarnask\u00f3gur. We had again a lovely weather and it was a pleasure to drive with bay views.<\/div>\n<div>We had breakfast and we walked through Akureyri before returning to start our route to the M\u00fdvatn region. On our route, we stopped to see the first of a host of large and majestic waterfalls, Go\u00f0afoss &#8220;Waterfall of the Gods&#8221;. I don\u2019t know if it was because it was the first, the scorching sun that we had or simply because it&#8217;s amazing, it dazzled us.<\/div>\n<div>At the North of M\u00fdvatn we went to the geothermal area of Hverir, it is impressive to see the steaming fumaroles if you manage to cope with the smell of rotten eggs. We climb to the crater V\u00edti with green pond water and then up and circled the crater Hverfell, further east, where we could enjoy the panoramic view of the lake and its surroundings. It was raining so we got all the equipment to wander around the area of waterfalls with all the waterproof clothes (essential in Iceland) and we had an amazing time staring at the waterfalls, a spectacular rate.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Read more<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/blog\/waterfalls-in-iceland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Waterfalls in Iceland<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Let north of the National Park J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rgl\u00fafur through the slow but deserved Highway 864 to see the canyon \u00c1sbyrgi with yellow and orange colors which again, impressed us!<\/div>\n<div>We slept on the campsite \u00c1sbyrgi, very well looked after (to use the shower it has an extra cost).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/lake-myvatn.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 425px; height: 319px;\" title=\"Lake M\u00fdvatn in North Iceland\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/lake-myvatn.jpg\" alt=\"Lake M\u00fdvatn in North Iceland\" width=\"1948\" height=\"1461\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/camping-in-asbyrgi.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 425px; height: 319px;\" title=\"\u00c1sbyrgi Campsite\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/camping-in-asbyrgi.jpg\" alt=\"\u00c1sbyrgi Campsite\" width=\"4000\" height=\"3000\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day 6 &#8211; East Iceland<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We went to the east of the country. It was a rainy day, it&#8217;s a shame because we went down one of the eastern fjords to Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur, the fog and rain didn\u2019t allow us to enjoy the scenery with plenty of waterfalls. We highly recommend to go through secondary roads to cross this area.<\/div>\n<div>We took all our waterproof clothes to do the tour and observe the waterfall Hengifoss of 108metres high. It is a very nice area and we slept at a camping by Lagarflj\u00f3t.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/amazing-hengifoss-waterfall.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 875px; height: 526px;\" title=\"Hengifoss waterfall\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/amazing-hengifoss-waterfall.jpg\" alt=\"Hengifoss waterfall\" width=\"1730\" height=\"1041\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day 7 &#8211; South Iceland<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We headed to the south-east (the roads are new and the GPS did not found them). It is the area we enjoyed driving the most, everything is spectacular, green mountains with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/blog\/black-sand-beaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black sand beaches<\/a> and a thousand waterfalls.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/one-of-the-many-waterfalls-in-iceland.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 875px; height: 656px;\" title=\"Waterfalls of Iceland\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/one-of-the-many-waterfalls-in-iceland.jpg\" alt=\"Waterfalls of Iceland\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>One of the many waterfalls in Iceland<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We stopped at the bay of L\u00f3nsvik to stretch our legs and to watch as the waves broke later in H\u00f6fn (we did not like enough to wait for lunch time and we did not taste typical scampi, a pity). We continue our route to J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n, stunning, we could see how a part of a huge iceberg broke off, just in front of us!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We slept near Skaftafell and finally (and thankfully), after being every night looking at the sky, just as we were going to bed at 23: 40h we saw the biggest show we have been waiting for all our lives, magic and extraordinary auroras that both of us were waiting to see. It is indescribable, is unique and wonderful. That night we allow ourselves the luxury of dining out (the beer is very good although very expensive compared to Spanish prices, 10 \u20ac per bottle).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day 9 &#8211; Reynisfjara<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We went to Vik and walked through the famous beach Reynisfjara wich is a gem! We also approached Dyrh\u00f3laey to enjoy the panoramic views (it&#8217;s a shame it&#8217;s out of season for puffins).<\/div>\n<div>In the afternoon we allow ourselves to be impressed by the waterfall Sk\u00f3gafoss (if you want to see them from close it is better to wear waterproof clothes).<\/div>\n<div>After being so lucky with the Auroras and the weather forecast was good, we decided to sleep at the foot of S\u00f3lheimaj\u00f6kull a glacier tongue M\u00fdrdalsj\u00f6kull. At 20h we could see the first and last! We managed to see the green colours on the sky but it was not moving with the green and purple colors, a shame but it still has a lot of value! Also we enjoyed a beautiful starry night with several shooting stars.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/the-big-black-sand-beach-outside-vik-in-myrdal.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 875px; height: 435px;\" title=\"Black sand beaches of Iceland\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/the-big-black-sand-beach-outside-vik-in-myrdal.jpg\" alt=\"Black sand beaches of Iceland\" width=\"1264\" height=\"628\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Reynisfjara with Reynisdrangar in the back<\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Day 10 &#8211; Waterfalls<\/span><\/h3>\n<div>We had a geothermal bath in Seljavellir, the joy of immersing yourself in warm water surrounded by mountains. It is a shame that tourists do not respect the area and the house used as a changing room was quite dirty.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/going-behind-seljalandsfoss.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 875px; height: 656px;\" title=\"Walking behind Seljalandsfoss\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/going-behind-seljalandsfoss.jpg\" alt=\"Walking behind Seljalandsfoss\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Walking behind Seljalandsfoss<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We stopped to contemplate the two waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Glj\u00fafr\u00e1foss, very nice and fun to contemplate from behind the waterfall itself and another hidden place in the canyon.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/the-waterfall-gljufrafoss-close-to-seljalandsfoss.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"width: 875px; height: 656px;\" title=\"The waterfall Glj\u00fafr\u00e1foss\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/the-waterfall-gljufrafoss-close-to-seljalandsfoss.jpg\" alt=\"The waterfall Glj\u00fafr\u00e1foss\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Glj\u00fafr\u00e1rfoss close to Seljalandsfoss<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Finally, we see part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rent.is\/blog\/the-golden-circle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Golden Circle<\/a> and enjoyed the fascinating spectacle offered by the famous Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall.<\/div>\n<div>We slept south of Lake \u00deingvallavatn, with a prediction of seeing 6 Auroras and a magical night but we couldn\u2019t see them. We did not know if we could get F-road but it seems that they are new and yes!
